Inset panels on the upper story of the Kanawha County Public Library are lit by linear LED grazing optics. The short pilasters flanking them have been left visually quiet. In explanation of the way that this approach balances brightness and shadow, Randy Burkett, Principal, RBLD, says, “The inset panels are illuminated softly, and the [pilasters] just get a bit of overflow light. That’s an inverted design technique.”
The lighting design team selected TROV L50 exterior cove luminaires for this cove application. Both 4-ft. and 8-ft. options were used here. This weather-proof luminaire features a GORE Vent that protects the internal system from moisture build-up, prolonging the lifetime of the fixture. Now available in higher efficacy (up to 29%) and output (up to 41%).
